About Hydrocising

WHAT IS HYDROCISING?

Hydrocising means exercising in water. Exercising in water has the benefit of providing both buoyancy and resistance, making it possible to strengthen and condition muscles and build endurance in a controlled environment without placing stress on joints.

WHY TREADMILL?

Underwater treadmill exercise goes one step beyond swimming and whirlpool.

While pools have benefits for weight loss and recreational exercise, an underwater treadmill allows for a safer control of the aquatic environment. Underwater Treadmill exercise allows for changes to the depth and speed of water for buoyant targeted control of muscles and joints. The treadmill also features adjustable warming temperatures to reduce pain and inflammation all while keeping your dog comfortable.

WHY MOBILE?

Underwater treadmills are scarce outside of major cities with rehabilitation hospitals. Owners and dogs will travel miles post-surgery multiple times a week to access this invaluable resource.

The Mutt Mobile brings all the benefits of the underwater treadmill exercise to YOU making health, maintenance and healing more accessible for ALL.

Read on to understand the many ways the underwater treadmill can keep your MUTT MOBILE!

How the Underwater Treadmill Works

Your dog will enter our empty plexiglass chamber by taking a shallow supported step up to the machine.

The speed will be set to accommodate the dog’s size, condition, and agreed treatment plan.

As warm water (usually 80 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit) enters the chamber the dog begins to walk in the water.

Water levels are adjusted to serve whatever health needs and goals the dog requires. For example, water is shoulder-high for extra buoyancy after surgery or to relieve joint pain, while water that is knee-high would be used for a more vigorous athletic workout.

Most dogs will start out with one to three exercise sets. Each set lasts two to three minutes, depending on how your dog reacts to the activity.

For Rehabilitation

Underwater treadmills can treat a wide range of injuries and health conditions in dogs with arthritis, hip or elbow dysplasia, joint pain, cruciate ligament ruptures, bone fractures, neurological disorders such as degenerative myelopathy or problems caused by spinal strokes.

For dogs who have recently had an injury or surgery, your veterinarian may recommend a specialized rehabilitation program for your dog. For your dog’s safety, please be sure to check with your veterinarian/surgeon before beginning our program.

For Lifestyle & Wellness

Exercise is imperative to your pets overall health.

Hydrocising improves muscle strength and stamina, provides a cardiovascular workout, stimulates lymph circulation, increases range of motion, and brings the body into balance by moving mindfully in all directions.

For Physical Conditioning

Hydrocising provides physical conditioning that can help increase stamina and endurance as well as strengthen muscles, all of which can not only improve athletic performance but also help guard against muscle strain and injuries.

Athletic and Competitive Dogs:

Our underwater treadmill is a dynamic modality for conditioning canine athletes who train, compete, or just need to get out more energy! Hydrocising can provide for shorter high-impact workouts, serve as structured controlled conditioning during the ‘off seasons’ and soothe tired and overworked muscles.

Obesity:

The buoyancy of water supports the dog while on the treadmill and the viscosity of the water gently works the muscles, increasing the heart rate and building muscle whilst burning fat. Exercise in water can also burn 5 to 10 times as many calories as exercise on land, thus increasing cardiorespiratory endurance and aiding in weight loss.

Improved Mood and Overall Well-Being:

  • A less commonly considered benefit of the treatment is increased self-confidence for a dog who is injured or old.
  • Injury can often lead to depression and more anxiety than usual in dogs who are used to being active and healthy. When dogs are able to move comfortably in hydro sessions happiness is visibly increased as dogs realize they can move in the water without pain and in turn confidence gives the dogs hope while increasing healing.

For Prevention & Maintenance

Exercise is imperative to your pets overall health, the same saying applies to our furry friends as it does humans: You have to use it or lose it to maintain muscle fitness.

Keeping your dog mobile with our underwater treadmill improves muscle strength and stamina, provides a cardiovascular workout, stimulates lymph circulation, increases range of motion, and brings all sides of the body into balance by moving in all directions.
